In earlier days, the sports vehicles that were made with much passion and enthusiasm, would reach their top speeds at the end of the 3rd lap and explode into a passionate and enthusiast
fireball. This has changed over time and F1 cars now can go up to their top speeds in a matter of seconds and complete 65 laps safely with extreme performances! Each car on the grid can do 0kmph to 160kmph to 0kmph in less than 5 seconds.(Close your mouth please...)
In the present Reliability, Safety and Performance have reached unimaginable heights. The thing with cars today is that they are not just a mode of transport but rather an Expression of Design, a Peek into a Personality and a Pioneer in Extreme Machines. However a few of these magical creations have an interesting history behind them. Read on as I elaborate a few of them.
BMW
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, Bavarian Motor Works or rather The BMW: An independent German automobile manufacturer founded in 1916. Beginning with aircraft engines, BMW AG produced a variety of products in its early years, eventually shifting to motorcycle production in 1923 and automobiles in 1928. Since 1928, 96% of all BMW's produced still remain on the road today!

The circular blue and white ‘BMW’ logo hearkens back to BMW's early days as a manufacturer of airplane engines. It portrays the ‘movement of an airplane propeller against a clear blue Bavarian sky.’ The BMW roundel badge is believed to have been partially derived from the logo of its predecessor company Rapp Motorenwerke, while ultimately taking on the colors and checkers from the arms of Bavaria (fussily in bend argent and azure).
BMW is a worldwide manufacturer of high-performance and luxury automobiles and motorcycles, and is the current parent company of both the MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands. (Yup! you read that right.) At first BMW supplied engines and other components for Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars. Later as Rolls Royce could no longer be run by the Vickers, was sold off not to BMW but to Volkswagen (VW). Nevertheless, Rolls Royce, the aero-engine maker, decided it would license certain essential trademarks (the Rolls-Royce name and logo) not to VW
, but instead to BMW, with whom it had recently shared joint business ventures. VW had bought rights to the "Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot and the shape of the radiator grille, but it lacked rights to the Rolls-Royce name in order to build the cars. Likewise, BMW lacked rights to the grille and mascot. BMW bought an option on the trademarks, licensing the name and "RR" logo for £40m, a deal that many commentators thought was a bargain for possibly the most valuable property in the deal. VW claimed that it had only really wanted Bentley anyway, and in sales terms this was the stronger brand, with Bentley models out-selling the equivalent Rolls Royce by around two to one. Finally, this was solved and from the 1st of Jan 2003 only BMW was able to name cars "Rolls-Royce", and VW's former Rolls-Royce/Bentley division could build only cars called "Bentley".

This motoring company has come all the way to produce a car GINA-(Geometry In ‘N’ Adaptations) light visionary model which has a body of seamless fabric stretched over a movable metal frame that allows the driver to change its shape at will. The car -- which actually runs and drives is just a styling design and is not going to the production line as of now but rather to the BMW Museum in Munich.
AUDI
Well now moving onto another Motoring wor
k that is older than the BMW, the AUDI. The company traces its origins back to 1899 and August Horch. The first Horch automobile was produced in 1901. In 1909, Horch was forced out of the company he had founded. He then started a new company and continued using the Horch brand. His former partners sued him for trademark infringement and a German court determined that the Horch brand belonged to his former company. August Horch was forced to refrain from using his own family name in his new car business. Horch immediately called a meeting at the apartment of Franz Fikentscher to come up with a new name for his company. During this meeting Franz's son was quietly studying Latin in a corner of the room. Several times he looked like he was on the verge of saying something but would just swallow his words and continue working, until he finally blurted out, "Father – audiatur et altera pars... wouldn't it be a good idea to call it ‘Audi’ instead of
horch?”. ‘Horch!’ in German means -Hark! Or Listen, which is "Audi" in Latin. The idea was enthusiastically accepted by everyone attending the meeting. It is sometimes (incorrectly) believed that AUDI is a backronym which stands for "Auto Union Deutschland Ingolstadt".PORSCHE
Another famous car make after these Automobile Giants is the Porsche (pronounced as porsh-uh). Professor Ferdinand Porsche initially started the company called -Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH in 1931, with main
offices at Königstrasse in the center of Stuttgart. The company offered motor vehicle development work and consulting, and did not initially build any cars under its own name. One of the first assignments the new company received was from the German government to design a car for the people, a "Volkswagen" in German. This resulted in the Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most successful car designs of all time.
The 1st Porsche, the Porsche 64, was developed in 1939 using many components from the Beetle. Porsche has ever since been a car that has a certain amount of precision engineering involved. Being a consultant to some of the very renowned car companies it has registered itself as one of the most evolved car makes in a very short span of time. Every Porsche has that last detail work in the engineering to the customer satisfaction.
In a May 2006 survey, Porsche was awarded the title of the most prestigious automobile brand by Luxury Institute, New York; which questioned more than 500 households with a gross annual income of at least US $200,000 and a net worth of at least US $720,000.
Porsche has for many years offered consultancy services to various other car manufacturers. Audi, Studebaker, SEAT, Daewoo, Subaru and Yugo have consulted Porsche on
engineering for their cars or engines. The Lada Samara was partly developed by Porsche in 1984. Porsche also helped Harley-Davidson design their new engine in their newer V-Rod motorcycle.

P.S. Would love to have your comments for a better write up next time.

For example The BMW M Division cars can travel at 80kmph after having 4 flat tires up to 20 minutes. It also has an electronic differential that locks the rear wheels when pulling through a curve at high speed allowing spectacular tail slides. The BMW 330i has a rare feature of automated driving on programmed paths at high speeds with good accuracy.
